The Cheapest Time to Move in Philadelphia (and What to Avoid)
Philadelphia has a moving season, and it has a moving day. Lease turnover and the university calendar concentrate an enormous share of the city's moves into late August and the first of the month. If your date is flexible at all, that flexibility is worth money.

Two-minute estimate, no house visit required.
Avoid the first and last three days of any month
Leases start and end on the first. That means the last two days and the first two days of every month are the busiest and least flexible windows in the city. Mid-month dates get you better crew availability and more choice of arrival time.
Late August is Philadelphia's peak
Between student turnover around University City and Temple and standard September 1 leases, the last week of August is the single hardest week to book. If you can move in early August or mid-September instead, do it.

Midweek mornings win
Tuesday through Thursday mornings are the calmest slots on the calendar. Early starts also mean cooler weather in summer, easier street parking, and a crew that is not coming off another job.
- •Best: mid-month, Tuesday-Thursday, first slot of the morning
- •Workable: mid-month weekends
- •Hardest: last two and first two days of the month, late August
What you control regardless of date
Hourly moves reward preparation. Fully packed boxes, cleared pathways, disassembled beds, and secured parking cut crew time on any date. Purging what you do not want to keep before the truck arrives is the other big lever.
